Owen Coyle's verdict on the 2-0 loss at Turf Moor
Owen Coyle has called for his players to react to the Burnley result in the best possible way when Derby County visit the Reebok on Tuesday evening.
The Bolton boss was ultimately disappointed with the outcome at Turf Moor, particularly his team’s reaction when they fell 2-0 behind with over 30 minutes still to play.
Coyle said: “We started the game well and created some good opportunities to get in front, looking sharp and inventive. We had limited Burnley to a couple of counter-attacks and looked strong.
“For their first goal the player looked offside but what disappointed me was our reaction to the second.
“Up until trailing by just a goal we were still in the game. After that we let our heads go down and that is not acceptable.
“We are all disappointed to start the season with no points, but we have back-to-back home games coming up and I have told the players in no uncertain terms what I expect from them.
“We have to ensure that we match up for the duration of the game. In this league there is a real appetite and work-rate and we have to ensure we match that and play to our maximum.
“When you don't do that, as we didn't today, you will be punished. We huffed and puffed but the bottom line is that we let a good opportunity to pick up three points pass us by.
“I accept total responsibility as the manager and we want to start putting the points on the board.
“We had almost 3500 fans supporting us today and we need to give them something to shout about, and we didn't today.”
