Sponsored Walk Success For Nat Fund

Bolton Wanderers staff, along with friends and family, successful complete sponsored hike for the Nat Lofthouse Fund

Members of Bolton Wanderers’ staff along with their friends and family successfully completed the Three Peaks challenge last month, raising a significant sum of money for the Nat Lofthouse Memorial Fund.

The party, including sculptor Sean Hedges-Quinn, began the ascent of Ben Nevis at 4pm on Saturday morning before taking in Scafell Pike and concluding at the foot of Mount Snowdon.

The trek took approximately 24 hours with each individual involved donning the new-look Bolton Wanderers home jersey complete with ‘For Nat’ printed on the back.

The club’s Finance Director Paula Mulligan, who took part and helped coordinate the walk, said: “It was a real mixture of emotions. The camaraderie was unbelievable and it was a difficult task, but in the end we did it.

“There were a number of bumps and bruises along the way, with three of our group even completing the challenge inside the 24-hour period.

“We had some mixed fortunes with the weather. On Ben Nevis we got a little bit of rain, whilst it really came down when we were on Scafell, though when we got to Snowdon the weather was beautiful."

The actual sum of money raised by the group for the Lofthouse Fund is still in the process of being calculated, with a significant proportion of online donations accounting for a large percentage of the total.

Paula added: “We’re grateful for all the donations that have come in. We even had people who we met along the walk offering to donate to the fund.

“One of our minibus volunteer drivers, who did a fantastic job throughout, even picked up some wayward walkers and took them back to the start of the hike who then sponsored us as a gesture of goodwill.

“All in all it was a great success. I think some of the individuals who didn’t complete the hike in less than 24 hours will have another crack at it next year. One thing’s for sure, I won’t.”
