Defender targeting maximum haul ahead of back-to-back away games
Zat Knight expects another tough test when Wanderers travel to the Amex for the first time on Saturday, but the defender is confident that the Whites can pick up a result against Gus Poyet’s high-flying Brighton.The Trotters have secured six points from Dougie Freedman’s first four games in charge, and Knight insists the side can extend their unbeaten run when they travel to East Sussex this weekend.
“It is going to be tough, especially playing a team like Brighton who are up there and playing well,” Knight said. “I think from this weekend’s game and Wednesday’s match with Blackburn, we have to make sure they don’t move further away from us.
“If we can pick up some points from those two teams, and then against Ipswich at home the following Saturday, we will then hopefully have a good return and start moving up the table.
“The manager hasn’t sent out any specific targets, but he believes that we are good enough to go out there and win every game.
“He is still trying to install his ideas onto the squad and hopefully we can turn the page and get where we want to be. We are not too far off as 13 points is nothing in this league as you can win a couple of games and find yourselves amongst the top six.
“I think the team have been playing well, there have been some games when a couple of months ago we would have lost, but we have stuck together and got something out of the games. We have won one and drawn three, but it would be nice to now turn those draws into wins.”
Knight is hoping to shrug off a slight hip injury he picked up last weekend against Barnsley, and he is confident that he will be fit for his first trip to the Amex.
“I think on the game at the weekend I got a bit of a knock, but it feels a lot better now,” Knight added. "I am ready to go now. It will be a tough game and a tough week with Blackburn on Wednesday as well.”
