Wanderers’ under-18 side began their league campaign with a 3-1 defeat at Reading at Hogwood Park the weekend.
David Lee and Tony Kelly’s youngsters shocked the hosts by racing into the lead through a fortuitous Guillermo Torres goal, as an attempted clearance cannoned into the Spaniard and into the net.
Reading were on level terms on 25 minutes when De’Jaune Taylor-Crossdale burst down the left flank before finishing well.
And the game was turned on its head when Liam Kelly volleyed the home side into the lead before the interval.
Wanderers did have a goal ruled out for offside, before an individual error allowed Conor Shaughnessy to extend Reading’s lead.
The Baby Whites had the opportunity to reduce the deficit late on, but Tom Walker’s penalty came back off the bar.
