Adam Bogdan attended the launch of ‘Lancashire Way’ at the Emirates Old Trafford last week to find out more about what Lancashire County Cricket Club will be doing in 2013 to raise participation levels in cricket.
The Lancashire Way is a partnership between Lancashire County Cricket Club, Lancashire County Cricket Club Foundation and the Lancashire Cricket Board that focuses on six key initiatives to promote inclusivity and raise the participation levels of cricket across the local region.
During Adam’s time at the Indoor Cricket Centre he tried his hand at table cricket and learnt the basic skills of various cricket components such as batting and bowling as well as interacting with school children and young adults from local schools and community groups.
Joining Adam at the launch of Lancashire Way were guests from across the world of sport and attendance; Lancashire players Tom Smith, Kyle Hogg, Kabir Ali and Tom Bailey as well Foundation Ambassadors Phil Neville, Andy Burnham MP, Alex Winters, Sgt Rick Clement, Peter Reid, Kyle Hogg and Mark Chapman as well as England Women’s cricketer Lydia Greenway and players from the England Physical Disability Squad.
Speaking after his visit to Lancashire County Cricket Club Adam said: “I’ve enjoyed coming here today and trying cricket for the first time! Cricket is not one of the main sports back home in Hungary so this was the first time I have held a proper cricket bat!
“I think the new project is a fantastic idea – I am a big advocate of anything that works to encourage people from all backgrounds to get involved in sports.”
The six key projects to be delivered by LCCC, LCCC Foundation and Lancashire Cricket Board throughout the year include a focus on disability cricket, girls’ cricket, ethnic minority cricket and an introduction to cricket scheme for adult.
Bolton Wanderers Community Trust have been working with LCCC lately to also promote inclusion in cricket and, in partnership with Cricket for Change, have launched the Street20 cricket project for 11-18years old in Bolton. For more information contact Richard Slater on rslater@bwct.org.uk.
