Zat Knight and Jay Spearing met with a group of young males to talk about the importance of being a good role model to your children.
The men - aged 18-30, unemployed and from Breightmet - are taking part in a media and arts programme called Mr One Million that is run weekly with the aim of helping the men gain new creative skills and access employment and other support opportunities. The group then work together to produce short films based on their own experiences. Their last film, focusing on unemployment, won a Pride of Bolton award for services to the community.
As part of the programme, the group are currently producing a new project ‘Once Upon a Time in Breightmet’ which explores fatherhood and the role of young dads and Zat and Jay helped the men with their film by talking to them about the importance of being a good role model to your children.
The 16 strong group quizzed the Wanderers duo about being dads themselves and Zat and Jay offered advice and guidance to the men as well as sharing stories and experiences to inspire them to become better fathers.
After meeting the Mr One Million group Jay said:“I really enjoying meeting this group of lads today and sharing my experiences with them about being a dad. They were a great bunch and were all really listening to what Zat and I had to say.

“We were chatting to the group as dads and we can inspire just one of them to become a better dad then it makes it all worthwhile.”
Zat echoed his team-mates thoughts by saying: “It was good to speak with a few of the lads and hear their experiences. Growing up a lot of my friends were in similar circumstances to these guys so I get where they are coming from. It’s good to see that they are all working together to do something positive and enjoy themselves as well.”
