Striker speaks following his winning strike against the Tykes
Having notched the winning goal in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Barnsley, Jermaine Beckford admitted that his strike was simply the icing on the cake as the Whites picked up another hard earned three points.
The striker hit his ninth of the campaign against the Tykes on the stroke of half time, with Chris O’Grady’s late penalty miss ensuring that Wanderers picked up their third win on the bounce.
Although thrilled at his first strike since his return from injury, the frontman explained that although personal plaudits are a bonus, his main priority will always remain ensuring that the team continue to secure victories towards the end of the campaign and beyond.
“As a striker, it’s always nice to score a goal, especially when it’s the winner, but ultimately the three points are well earned and much deserved,” he said following the final whistle.
“Of course I’m pleased to be back in the team, but it’s ultimately bigger than any one player. It’s a team game, so it’s irrelevant of which eleven actually go out on the field.
He continued: “You know you’re going to get 100% determination and work-rate from every single player, but we’re really happy with the result and the performance.
“It was another three points that were thoroughly deserved – that’s three wins in a week and everybody in the changing room is over the moon with it.”
