Manager offers his views on Bolton's 3-0 home victory over Cardiff City
Neil Lennon was pleased with the intensity and tempo his side showed in the 3-0 home victory over Cardiff City at Macron Stadium on Tuesday evening.
A Liam Feeney brace and a late Matt Mills goal saw the Trotters run out comfortable winners against the side from the Welsh capital.
And speaking after the match the manager was quick to highlight a pleased team performance from all involved.
“It’s certainly the best we’ve played since I’ve been here,” Lennon said after the match.
“We were up against a very good side in Cardiff who have started well under Russell Slade, who himself is a very good manager.
“There was a good intensity and tempo to our play and we showed some real quality in the final third.
“We finished the game very strongly, which pleased me. Our fitness levels are certainly improving.
“Everyone tonight can be satisfied with their performance.”
“The next thing for us is to now be consistent. We can’t keeping winning one, losing one. We’ve set a good standard now and we have to maintain that.
“We’ve beaten a team that were in the Premier League last season, so the lads know that they have it in them now.
“We had to slightly tweak our team in the second half, with Cardiff bringing on Ravel Morrison. They went to a diamond, so we decided to match them up.
Lennon opted to field Josh Vela at right-back and was happy with the youngster’s contribution over the piece.
He added: “We decided to put Josh in at right-back because we feel he’s probably a little bit more mature on the ball at this moment. He was very cultured on the ball and was excellent all evening.”
