Young defender gets late call ahead of tournament in Toulon
Rob Holding has been called up to the England Under-21 squad for this month’s Toulon Tournament.
The Young Lions head coach Gareth Southgate, who was at Bolton’s recent home win over Hull, had previously named a 20-man squad for the competition held in southern France.
But after Everton’s Brendan Galloway was forced to withdraw from the travelling party through injury, Holding, who was previously on stand-by, has been drafted into the main squad.
Bolton Wanderers Player of the Year Holding could now make his England Under-21 debut, with games against Portugal (May 19), Guinea (May 23), Paraguay (May 25) and Japan (May 27) all on the horizon.
