Double success for the club's Ladies team as they win promotion and their respective league title
Bolton Wanderers Ladies First Team secured promotion from the North West Premier League as champions of the division on Sunday afternoon.
Travelling to HASSRA Sports Pavilion to face third-place Blackpool, the girls needed one point from their remaining two fixtures to secure the league title.
Blackpool however started the stronger of the two teams with Bolton's Ladies showing a few nerves at the start of the match. The Whites soon found their way into the game though, winning a corner off some fantastic attacking by Michelle Kirkman-Ryan.
The set-piece was delivered by Ruby Howard meanwhile and was met with a thunderous header by the ever present Shell Saunders to put Wanderers in front - a scoreline which remained the same come the break.
BWLFC started strongly in the second half too, creating a number of opportunities but none were able to find the back of the net.
Bolton’s second however came from a Hayley Langford free kick from near the halfway line, with her delivery being met with an excellent finish from Saunders for her second of the game.
The girls' final goal then came from team captain Katie Miller who stabbed the ball home from a few yards out in what can only be described as a fairytale ending.
Minutes later, the final whistle was blown and the victory celebrations began, with the Ladies winning the league with one game remaining over near rivals Wigan.
This is the Ladies' first title in the club's history having been a founding member of the league many years ago and will see them compete in the FA Women’s Premier League next season.
All involved with the Ladies Team would like to thank everyone for their support this year in helping them to achieve promotion to the fourth tier of women’s football.
