Bolton Wanderers' Under-18s moved to the top of the U18 Professional Development League North table with victory over their Barnsley counterparts on Wednesday evening.
Wanderers started the game well, looking to attack from the off and after only seven minutes, Edmundson made a good tackle and the ball broke to Luca Connell who played in Eddie Brown with a superb through-ball.
The latter proceeded to strike his effort across the goalkeeper from outside the area to give Bolton the lead.
After this, Barnsley looked to hit long balls over the top which the defence dealt with.
In the second half meanwhile, the Whites were more composed on the ball, keeping possession better in the final third and their second goal came as Luca Navarro crossed from the right.
Brown's initial header was saved, but the striker reacted first when scoring from the rebound.
After going two ahead, Nicky Spooner's side controlled the game and looked to hit the Tykes on the break and their third came from a good run by Dennis Politic, with the ball breaking to Brown who completed his hat-trick with a well taken goal.
Barnsley pushed forward inside the closing stages and did score a late goal, but it was ultimately a consolation as Bolton ran out comfortable winners.
