Matthew Fearnley scores on his return to action after three month injury lay off
Nicky Spooner’s side lost their first U18 Professional Development League game since late October against their Birmingham counterparts.
Bolton made a flying start to the game. Within a minute Luca Navarro played a perfectly-weighted pass into the path of Matthew Fearnley. The midfielder kept his composure to slot home from 10 yards.
The goal gave the young Whites a boost, there after playing with confidence as they looked to play out from the back and through the thirds.
Despite dominating possession and creating numerous chances, Wanderers failed to find the second goal of the game, however, the signs were encouraging.
With the first half drawing to a close, Birmingham city were awarded a penalty. Bailey converted to level the scoring just before half-time.
The second half saw both sides unable to create chances with the game turning into a midfield battle.
On the 89th minute, City found the back of the net for the second time. Jordan Clarke scoring the winner for the visitors.
Speaking to bwfc.co.uk after the final whistle, Spooner said; “The performance was encouraging, however, the result was disappointing and it’s also a shame to lose our unbeaten run.”
