Wanderers' Under-18s ran out 3-1 winners away at Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday morning to extend their lead at the top of the league.
The Whites started the game well, pinning the Owls into their own third without really creating many chances.
As the half wore on however, Wednesday started to take control of the game and could have opened the scoring when they hit the post from a corner.
Wanderers were then dealt a blow as they were reduced to ten men as Hartshorne received his second yellow card of the game five minutes before the break, with the home side taking the lead on the stroke of half-time.
Despite their setbacks, the Trotters came out for the second half, bringing Dennis Politic on for Cameron Moore and the former immediately got in the game and started to run at the hosts' defence.
And on 60 minutes, Politic received the ball on the halfway line, saw the goalkeeper off his line and drove the ball over his head to equalise.
Nicky Spooner's side then looked to sit back and hit Sheffield Wednesday on the break and on 80 minutes, Luca Navarro crossed to Birch who was fouled in the area, with Navarro making no mistake from the spot to put Bolton ahead.
Things got even better meanwhile when Matty Fearnley played in Navarro who beat his man and slipped the ball into the bottom corner to ensure that Wanderers took all three points home with them.
