Preview: Five talking points ahead of Leeds United v Bolton Wanderers

Following the conclusion of the March international break, it’s time to focus on the final stretch in the league season as Wanderers return to action away at Leeds United.

Unbeaten from their last three outings, the Whites will be looking to extend that run as bwfc.co.uk picks out five talking points ahead of Bolton's visit to Elland Road.

1. Football is back!

The international breaks drag on a bit, don’t they? Thankfully, league action returns on Good Friday as Wanderers go on a little excursion of their own – albeit only to nearby Leeds.

It’s been almost a fortnight since the Wanderers beat Aston Villa at BL6, but Phil Parkinson will be hoping that his team can keep the momentum from that victory going when they step out at Elland Road.

And games coming thick and fast over the next few weeks, starting with the Easter weekend, it will be important for Bolton to get off to a good start heading into the final stretch of the 2017/18 Sky Bet Championship season.

2. Away form

The Trotters go into their clash at Elland Road having seen their away record pick up in recent weeks following draws in each of their last three games on the road.

Points against Norwich, Reading and Sheffield Wednesday have helped Wanderers climb away from the Sky Bet Championship bottom three as other teams at the lower end of the table have struggled for form.

Another result this Friday would go a long way helping secure their status in the Championship next season.

3. Big away following

Bolton will be backed by 2,500 supporters after selling out their entire away allocation for the trip to Elland Road.

While the Trotters have picking up just a solitary win away from home this season, a 1-0 against Sheffield United in the last match of 2017, they have always been backed by strong away numbers with the Wanderers faithful always travelling in force.

Whit the Whites' again set to be backed by a passionate away support, it will be a huge boost for Bolton to see a packed away stand at one of the more intimidating grounds in the division.

Be loud, be proud and back the boys!

4. Midfield options

There will be fierce competition for places in the middle of the park on Friday with the return of Jan Kirchhoff.

The ex-Bayern Munich player has missed the last two games through injury, but returned to fitness during the international break and is eyeing up a first team return at Elland Road.

Derik Osede has impressed in his absence in recent weeks, while Darren Pratley and Karl Henry will both be assessed late on after picking up knocks during the week.

With Josh Vela and Jem Karacan also available and Reece Burke catching the eye when selected in midfield away at Norwich City, manager Phil Parkinson will be left with pleny to ponder when travelling to Leeds.

5. Easter weekend

The Easter period doesn’t just bring chocolate eggs and bank holidays, but also a busy schedule of football matches!

After the visit to Elland Road, the next opponents to BL6 will be rivals Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

With two huge games coming in such a short space of time, it’s an opportunity for Wanderers to put some distance between themselves and the danger zone at a crucial stage of the season.
