Bolton Wanderers take on Sheffield Wednesday in the Sky Bet Championship at the University of Bolton Stadium on Tuesday evening.
And with that in mind, bwfc.co.uk take a look back at some of the notable names to have played for both sides.
Barry Bannan
Now a permanent fixture in Sheffield Wednesday's midfield, Bannan actually spent a loan spell with Wanderers during the second half of the 2014/15 campaign.
Then on the books of Crystal Palace, the Scotland international figured prominently for the Trotters as he made 16 appearances for them in the Sky Bet Championship.
Moving to Hillsborough that summer meanwhile, he quickly endeared himself to the Owls faithful and is fast approaching 140 appearances in all competitions for the club, while this season, he has played 18 times and scored two goals.
Mark Beevers
Starting out in the Owls' youth set-up, the centre-half turned professional at Hillsborough in the mid-noughties and racked up over 160 appearances for the Yorkshire outfit before his departure in the summer of 2013, playing his part in their promotion winning campaign of 2011/12.
Arriving at the University of Bolton Stadium in the summer of 2016 following the Whites' relegation to Sky Bet League One meanwhile, the defender certainly made his mark in his maiden season at BL6 with seven goals in 51 appearances as Phil Parkinson's men won promotion back to the second tier at the first time of asking.
Also figuring prominently last term as the Trotters staved off relegation on the final day of the season, to date he has made 124 appearances for the club.
Will Buckley
Making the switch to Bolton Wanderers last summer following the expiration of his contract with Sunderland, winger Buckley actually spent time on loan with our latest visitors during his time at the Stadium of Light.
Joining the Owls on a season-long loan deal at the start of 2016/17, injury unfortunately curtailed his progress with the Yorkshire side and he was limited to just 11 appearances in all competitions.
So far for the Whites however, he has figured 39 times in all competitions, scoring three goals against Wolves, Nottingham Forest and Bristol City.
Chris Eagles
The former Manchester United winger Chris Eagles enjoyed a brief loan with Sheffield Wednesday during the early stages of his career.
Whilst still plying his trade for the Red Devils, the wideman was sent to Hillsborough to gain first team experience, with him making 25 appearances and scoring three goals in the first half of the 2005/06 season.
Later joining Wanderers for a three-and-a-half year spell between July 2011 and November 2014, he figured 106 times in all competitions for the Trotters, finding the back of the net 19 times before leaving for Blackpool.
Stuart Holden
A man whose career was cruelly cut short following an injury sustained against Manchester United in March 2011, Stuart Holden's relatively short but sweet spell in Wanderers' first team line-up will never be forgotten.
Arriving in England in January 2010 from Houston Dynamo, the Scottish-born American international became a firm fan favourite almost immediately.
Unfortunately falling victim to a troublesome knee ligament injury just a year later however, he attempted a number of comebacks - even going on loan to Sheffield Wednesday for a brief spell - but was sadly forced to hang up his boots in early 2016.
Jermaine Johnson
Joining Wanderers on loan from Tivoli Gardens in his native Jamaica in 2001, Jermaine Johnson unfortunately failed to make any notable impact whilst at BL6.
Just six years later though, he made the switch to Sheffield Wednesday and flourished at Hillsborough, where over the next seven seasons, he notched up over 250 appearances in all competitions and helped the club achieve promotion to the Sky Bet Championship in 2012.
Moving to Indy Elevens after departing the Owls, he is now back with his first club Tivoli.
Gary Madine
A man who left his mark on both Wanderers and Sheffield Wednesday, Gary Madine enjoyed the most prolific spells of his career in front of goal whilst on the books of each side.
Joining Wednesday in 2011, he scored 18 goals in his maiden season at Hillsborough as the Owls secured promotion from Sky Bet League One.
Remaining with the Yorkshire outfit until the summer of 2015 - and enjoying loan stints with Carlisle United, Coventry City and Blackpool during that time - he moved to Wanderers in July of that year and scored six times in 2015/16.
His most prolific spell during his time at the University of Bolton Stadium however came last season when he scored ten times before the end of January, with his form culminating in a move to Cardiff.
Currently, Madine is out on loan at Sheffield United after making the short term switch in January of this year.
David Reeves
Birkenhead-born striker David Reeves started his career with Sheffield Wednesday in 1986, going on to make a handful of appearances for the club before departing Hillsborough in 1989 for the Whites.
And his time with the Trotters was certainly fruitful, with him making over 130 league appearances in four years, scoring 19 goals, before moving to Notts County.
John Sheridan
Best known for his spells with Leeds United and our latest opponents Sheffield Wednesday, John Sheridan made over 200 appearances at Hillsborough between 1989 and 1996.
During the latter stages of his time with the Owls however, he spent time on loan with the Whites - a move which eventually became permanent that summer.
Over the course of the next two years, Sheridan made just over 30 league appearances for the Trotters before making the switch to Doncaster Rovers.
Emerson Thome
Born in Brazil, Emerson Thome made Wednesday his first British club when moving to Hillsborough in the summer of 1997 and in two seasons, played over 70 games in all competitions, scoring twice against Stockport County in the FA Cup and Wimbledon in league action.
Enjoying stints with Chelsea and Sunderland thereafter, he moved to Wanderers and in his only season at the club, helped the Whites to reach the Carling Cup Final before moving to Wigan that summer.
Paul Warhurst
Warhurst made the switch to Wednesday in the summer of 1991 for £750,000, and although he began his career at the club as a defender, midway through his second season, injuries to David Hirst and Mark Bright saw him employed as an emergency striker.
In a phenomenal sequence, he scored 12 goals in as many games, and after four years as a defender, was called up to the England national team as a striker.
Whilst at Wednesday, Warhurst played in both the 1993 League Cup Final and the 1993 FA Cup Final before moving to Blackburn Rovers.
In 1998 meanwhile, he agreed terms with Wanderers after leaving Crystal Palace and over the next five years, he figured for the club on over 100 occasions alongside helping the Trotters win promotion to the Premiership via the play-offs in 2001.
He eventually left BL6 in 2003 after the club staved off relegation on the final day of the campaign.
