Preview: Nottingham Forest vs. Bolton Wanderers

Bolton Wanderers take on Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon for their final fixture of the 2018/19 season. With that being said, bwfc.co.uk have outlined five talking points ahead of the clash.

1. Player of the Year – Gary O’Neil

Gary O'Neil was named as Bolton Wanderers' Player of the Year for the 2018/19 campaign by the club's supporters on Friday.

The experienced figure, who joined the club last summer, scooped the accolade with 37% of votes submitted by Whites supporters.

He has made 30 appearances in league and cup this season, scoring three times against Rotherham United, Millwall and Wigan Athletic.

A stalwart in the heart of the Trotters' midfield, the 35-year-old has proven himself an integral member of Phil Parkinson's squad during the current campaign for the football club.

Luca Connell has been named as Young Player of the Year meanwhile following his breakthrough season in senior football.

Speaking about the award, O'Neil said: "It is always nice when you get these sorts of personal accolades.

"It has been a tough year for everyone at the club, but this is a nice little bonus for what has been a difficult time for everybody.

"I would 100% have swapped this accolade for the team staying in the division.

"The Player of the Year award is never the most important thing, but I appreciate everyone who voted for me."

The Iranian international has won various trophies during his 12 years as a professional, with his most notable trophy coming in 2016/17 as he aided Olympiacos to the Superleague title.

Joining from Leicester City in mid-January was defender Yohan Benalouane.

The Tunisian international became Martin O’Neill’s first signing as manager made his debut against Bristol City just a day after signing for Forest.

Benalouane was a part of the Leicester City squad that won the Pemier League, playing four times for the Foxes in that season.

Alongside him at the back is new Swedish man, Alexander Milosevic.

The towering centre back has played in Turkey, Germany and his native Sweden before joining the Reds in January.

His most recent achievement was winning the Allsvenskan with Swedish side AIK back in 2018.

On loan from Udinese, Molla Wague was drafted in to bolster the defensive line.

The Malian international scored on his debut for Forest in February, scoring the winner late on against Brentford in a 2-1 victory.
