On Friday 8th November Bolton Wanderers Community Trust hosted their Local Stage of the EFL Kids Cup. Over 30 schools were represented from across the town, there was some fantastic football on display on all six pitches at Powerleague, Bolton.
The group games and knockout stages were completed leading to a closely contested final between Egerton Community Primary School and Mytham Road Primary School. The final finished 1-1 with the equalising goal being scored six seconds before the final whistle by Egerton to take the game to a penalty shootout which they won 3-1.
Egerton CP School will now represent Bolton Wanderers FC in the North Regional Stage for League One Clubs. The Regional winner will go onto to play their counterparts from the South in a final prior to the League 1 Play Off Final at Wembley in May.
“It was brilliant to have over 30 schools playing in the EFL Kids Cup this afternoon. We are very lucky to have a lot of passionate teachers within our Primary Schools who want to give their pupils every opportunity to participate in sports competitions throughout the year. Although there could only be one school lifting the trophy every child got the opportunity to represent their school and play against a minimum of five other schools. Having Yoan Zouma attend, meet the teams, and pose for pictures will give these primary school pupils memories to last a lifetime and will no doubt increase their ambitions to become a professional footballer.”

Bolton Wanderers Community Trust would like to thank Bolton School Games Organisers Brian Richardson & Bernadette O’Hare for their help in organising the tournament, and Wanderers Soccer School Elite Development Squad players for refereeing.
