JAK HICKMAN has joined Bolton Wanderers on an initial one-year deal to strengthen Ian Evatt’s squad ahead of the Sky Bet League Two campaign.
The 21 year-old Sandwell-born defender impressed Head Coach Evatt during an extended period on trial at the University of Bolton Stadium and has penned a one year deal with an option for a further 12 months should the club decide to extend it.
Hickman started his career with Coventry City in 2017 and had several loan spells with non-league clubs including Ashton United and Hereford to gain senior experience before leaving the Ricoh Arena earlier this year.
Commenting about his move to Wanderers, Hickman told bwfc.co.uk: “I’ve been here for a few weeks but to finally get the deal over the line feels like a dream come true and I’m really excited to be here.
“I’ve made mistakes in my past but I’ve learned from them. The experiences have made me a better player and a better person.
“I’m looking forward to this next chapter and moving in a positive direction to help the club get back to where it should be.
“Bolton is a massive club and speaks for itself.”
Head Coach Ian Evatt added: “Jak had issues with his previous club Coventry City after a huge mistake on social media, which he paid the price for.
“I am all for giving people a chance and we have had him in over an extensive period to test him technically, tactically, physically and, more importantly, mentally; he came through with flying colours.
“He has a lot of ability for a young player and now has a chance to get his career back on track.
“Jak has learned his lesson and has my full support.”
