Xavier Amaechi was ‘buzzing’ to make his full debut for Wanderers in only the second senior start of his career.
Amaechi also scored his first goal for the Whites to help secure a 2-2 draw against Cheltenham Town.
And the on-loan Hamburg winner was delighted to make an impact after recovering from the broken metatarsal he sustained after linking up with Wanderers in pre-season.
“It was amazing,” said Amaechi, who impressed before making way 20 minutes from the end as Ian Evatt’s men twice fought back to earn a point and extended their unbeaten home run to five games.
“I was just over the moon to be back with the team.
“It was great to be back on the pitch and to help the team out.
“We were a bit unlucky not to get the win.
“The boys dug deep in the second half and it was good to get the draw.
“Obviously the first 20 minutes were a bit difficult, but we adapted and changed formation.
“We gave it our all out there.”
After missing a large chunk of the season so far, Amaechi believes he is finally close to finding full fitness.
And the former England youth international praised the Wanderers’ medical team for helping him recover and break into the side following a handful of games off the bench.
“The physios have been great and have worked on me a lot, so yeah I’m getting closer to full fitness,” said Amaechi, who Wanderers are hoping to keep beyond the end of his initial loan spell in January.
“I feel better now than I did in pre-season and I think it will only be a couple more weeks (to gain full fitness) but I feel good.
“I’ve gelled with the boys really well and I’m looking forward to the future.”
