Captain Ricardo Almeida Santos is calling for a show of character from the Wanderers’ players as they look to bounce back at Wycombe.
Wanderers are smarting after a 5-3 extra-time defeat at Stockport County ended their interest in the FA Cup.
The Whites were out-played at Edgeley Park on a collective off night for Ian Evatt’s men.
And Santos knows they must do better to restore some faith back in League One at Adams Park on Saturday.
“We spoke after the game and felt it wasn’t us,” said the Wanderers’ defender.
“We need to show more character and stick together. We’ve got a big game on Saturday so we’ve got to quickly move on and focus on that.
“The fans came in their numbers as always and we felt we let ourselves, the fans and the club down – especially the management staff because the gaffer, Pete and Hirdy gave us a lot of detail in training.
“We haven’t played like that in a long while. We didn’t keep the ball and we weren’t strong enough.
“It was too easy. Everyone was disappointed and we need to move on, clear our heads and go again on Saturday.”
The Wanderers’ squad was back at work at the training ground on Thursday morning – less than 12 hours after their exit to the National League side.
And after beating Crewe in their last league game, the Whites will be looking to regain some momentum against a Wycombe side which also went out of the Cup with a replay defeat this week – losing 1-0 at home to Hartlepool United.
“The only way to forget about yesterday is to get a little league run going and show everyone what we are about,” Santos added.
“We need to perform in the league.
“We haven’t got a lot of time before we travel down to Wycombe. We’ve only got a couple of days to get going again so we’ve got to get our minds fresh and go again.”
