Ricardo Almeida Santos has been appointed as Wanderers’ new captain.
Santos takes over as skipper from Antoni Sarcevic following the midfielder’s move to Stockport County.
Santos – an ever-present in last season’s promotion success – has quickly become a mainstay of the Wanderers’ set-up on and off the pitch since arriving at the start of last season.
And manager Ian Evatt firmly believes the 26-year-old is the right man to take on the captain’s armband.
“Rico is a key player for us and is also extremely popular and well respected in the dressing room,” said Evatt, who will welcome the central defender back from suspension for Saturday’s home game against Gillingham.
“Making him captain will give him even more responsibility and it’s another important step in his career with us.”
Meanwhile, senior professional Eoin Doyle remains as vice-captain to continue lending his experience to Evatt’s side as they continued to grow in League One.
