Xav Amaechi is set to step up his comeback with a planned outing in the Reserves.
The Wanderers’ wideman hasn’t featured since December after picking up a hamstring strain.
But he has been lined up for some minutes when the Reserves face Burnley’s U23s in a Central League Cup tie at Lostock this afternoon (Thursday KO 2pm).
Amaechi – whose loan spell from Hamburg has been extended until the end of the season – has endured a frustrating time with injuries since his arrival last summer.
But after recovering from a broken bone in his foot sustained in pre-season, the former England youth international made eight appearances prior to the Whites’ enforced Covid Christmas shut-down and will be looking to add to those when fully back up to speed.
Wanderers’ boss Ian Evatt is also expected to give game time to some more of his senior players against the Clarets, who top Group A with two wins of out two, as the Reserves complete their group-stage fixtures.
