Barbara Higson and other members of the family of the late and legendary Dave Higson were welcomed as guests of the club to officially open the Dave Higson Bar in the Fan Zone.
Dave was the voice of Bolton Wanderers with his legendary catch phrase “What a Ding –Dong-Do” providing the commentary on Wanderers’ videos for over 10 years.
Dave sadly died in 2005 but his videos are still revered and played out to this day by fans all over the world. He followed BWFC everywhere and was deemed an institution.
Best known for his work as a commentator on Roadrunner video when covering the Wanderers games between 1988 and 1995, in the late 1990s he also made an appearance on BBC's Fantasy Football League alongside David Baddiel and Frank Skinner.
Following the opening of the bar in the Fan Zone before last Saturday’s game against Sheffield Wednesday, Barbara and family were invited on to the pitch at half-time where they met up with ‘Super’ John McGinlay, who presented Barbara with a signed shirt and a presentation trophy from members of the Supporters’ Trust in honour of Dave.
Phil Mason, CEO of Bolton Wanderers in the Community and Club Chaplain said: “The club was really keen to take forward the idea of naming the Fan Zone bar after Dave as a fitting tribute to someone who was loved by all fans and an important member of the BWFC family.”
