Gethin Jones has praised the teamwork behind Wanderers’ rock-solid start to the season.
The Whites face Sheffield Wednesday this afternoon (Saturday) on the back of the longest unbeaten run in the EFL.
Ian Evatt’s men are unbeaten in 12 games and also had the best defensive record in League One ahead of the visit of the Owls.
Wanderers hadn’t conceded a goal since their opening-day draw at Ipswich.
And Jones insists a run of three straight clean sheets is not just down to the defensive unit.
“It’s a team effort. It starts from the front,” said Jones – an ever-present in Wanderers’ back line.
“The strikers set the tempo off for us at how we want to press and how we want to defend.
“Everyone has been taking a big part defensively this year.
“We did a lot of work pre-season in how we work off the ball and we’re also getting chances off it, so we’re really pleased at the moment.”
Wednesday will present a serious test of Wanderers’ early-season credentials in a mouth-watering clash at the University of Bolton Stadium.
But a last-gasp equaliser from MJ Williams earned the Whites a draw against the South Yorkshiremen in April as Wanderers maintained their unbeaten sequence.
And with just one home loss since January, Jones is hungry to keep the run going against a Wednesday side which has also made a positive start to the season with just one defeat in their first four games.
“It’s been brilliant. It’s one of the things we said at the start of the season,” added the Whites’ vice-captain.
“We want to make our home for a really hard place for teams to come to this year.
“We’ve taken it on from last season and so we’re looking forward to it.
“We’ve been progressing well as a squad. Results have been good for us and hopefully we can go into today with a lot of confidence and take the game to Sheffield Wednesday.”
