Wanderers will face Premier League opposition in the shape of Aston Villa in the second round of the Carabao Cup.
The Whites were handed a home tie against Steven Gerrard’s side when they came out of the hat first in the northern section of the round-two draw.
Second-round games are scheduled to be played in the week commencing Monday 22 August.
The exact date of the tie at the University of Bolton Stadium and ticket information will be confirmed in due course.
Wanderers – who reached this stage by beating Salford City 5-1 on Tuesday night – last faced Villa in the Championship in the 2018/19 season.
And the last meeting in the League Cup saw the Whites beat the five-times winners 2-0 at Villa Park in September, 2011 as the side managed by Owen Coyle reached the fourth round of the competition with goals from Chris Eagles and Gael Kakuta.
The tie will also rekindle memories of Wanderers' epic home semi-final first-leg 5-2 win over the Midlanders in 2004 when 'that free-kick' from Jay Jay Okocha helped Sam Allardyce's team build up enough of an advantage to reach the final at Cardiff's Millenium Stadium.
Villa are one of 13 top-flight sides to join the competition in round two.
