The B Team succumbed to a second defeat in the Central League Cup as an experienced Rotherham side went top of Group A.
First-team men Georgie Kelly and Conor Washington got the goals as the Millers secured their third successive group win.
Wanderers – missing a number of players out on loan but with fit-again striker Gez Sithole back on starting duty – had won their last game in the competition but found themselves behind inside the first minute when Kelly turned in a Washington cross at the far post.
The young Whites quickly hit back as Connor Stanley (pictured) – currently enjoying a loan spell with FC United – added to his goal tally with a superbly struck free-kick from the edge of the box.
But Rotherham were back in front by the break as Kelly notched his second from the penalty spot to add to the three Championship goals he has scored this season.
Luke Hutchinson continued his excellent season for the Whites with a number of fine saves as Matt Craddock’s men looked to stay in the contest.
But he couldn’t prevent Northern Ireland international Washington adding to Rotherham’s lead with an effort on the turn from close range.
Wanderers continued to threaten at the other end but the nearest they came to pulling a goal back was an effort from youth-team striker Danny Jones which flashed just wide as their hopes of reaching the semi-finals faded.
B Team: Hutchinson, Frimpong, Toure, Tutte (Inwood 69), Halford, Khumbeni (Ahmed 72), Pettifer, Tweedley, Stanley, Lockett, Sithole (Jones 76). Subs: Dallimore, Brown, Sharples.
