Wanderers have been drawn alongside Crewe Alexandra and Tranmere Rovers in the group stage of the Papa John’s Trophy.
Ian Evatt’s men have been placed alongside the League Two sides in Group B of the competition's northern section.
The Whites will find out the fourth side in the group when an U21 side is added in Thursday’s draw.
The invited U21 sides in the northern section are Everton, Leeds United, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Newcastle United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Wanderers will be guaranteed two home ties in the group stage with the opening round of fixtures due to be played in the week commencing 29 August.
The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup will also be made on Thursday – the same day as the release of the 2022/23 EFL fixtures.
Wanderers will be ball number six in the northern section with round-one fixtures due to be played in the week commencing 8 August.
