Wanderers Confirm Departures

Half-a-dozen players will leave Wanderers this summer as they reach the end of their current contracts with the Whites.

In addition, on-loan winger Xav Amaechi will not be returning to the University of Bolton Stadium having ended his season-long stay from Hamburg.

Defender Alex Baptiste and midfielder Andrew Tutte have not had their playing contracts renewed, while full-back Liam Gordon and forward Nathan Delfouneso – who is finishing the season on loan at Bradford City – have been released.

Defender Liam Edwards – who returned from a lengthy injury absence to spend the second half of the season on loan at Southport – has also been released, along with young goalkeeper Matty Alexander, teenage striker Jay Fitzmartin and defender Reiss Greenidge, who has spent the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Barnet.

Meanwhile, defender Adam Senior, 20, has been offered a new contract to extend his stay with the Whites, while Wanderers have taken up an option to keep teenage forward Finlay Lockett following his recent return from injury and goalkeeper Luke Hutchinson, 19.

Goalkeeper Matt Gilks, 39, has also reached the end of his playing contract but will be staying on as goalkeeping coach as a key part of manager Ian Evatt’s backroom staff.

Evatt met with his playing squad on Monday after Wanderers’ ended an impressive first season back in League One with a 4-2 win over Fleetwood Town on Saturday to secure a ninth-place finish.

“Football moves on and this club is moving onwards and upwards,” said Evatt as he looks to keep developing and strengthening his squad over the summer.

“It’s never nice when you’re letting people go and really difficult but we thank everybody for all their efforts.

“Some have played larger parts than others but their attitudes towards training has been first-class and I’ve appreciated and enjoyed working with all of them.

“Some also helped get this club moving back in the right direction last season and were a big influence on that, so we thank them for their contribution and wish them well in the future.”

Baptiste, 36, made 40 appearances to help Wanderers win promotion from League Two last season, while Tutte, 31, featured 19 times before injuries prevented him from adding to his League appearances this term.

Left-back Gordon, 22, leaves after making 36 appearances for the Whites wrapped around a loan spell back at former club Dagenham and Redbridge, while Delfouneso, 31, moves on after making 67 appearances, including 44 during last season’s promotion-winning campaign.

Amaechi, 21, joined Wanderers on loan last summer but after picking up an injury in pre-season saw his debut delayed until November before making a total of 12 appearances before the end of the campaign.

Wanderers thank and express their gratitude to all the players for their efforts and commitment during their time with the club and wish them well in their future careers.
