A last-gasp Kitt Nelson goal denied Wanderers a Central League victory at Lostock on Tuesday afternoon after Matt Craddock’s side had led twice through Danny Jones and Finlay Lockett.
Wanderers took just ten minutes to edge in front in what turned out to be a closely contested game and the goal came through scholar Danny Jones who converted from close range after latching onto Lockett’s cross from the right after the winger had ventured into the North End area.
Just before the half-hour mark, Mikey O’Neill equalised for North End as the hosts looked to fight their way back into the contest with Wanderers previously on the front foot.
Declan John started the game to gain some valuable match minutes, with the defender withdrawn at half-time and replaced by Max Conway after coming through unscathed.
Matt Craddock’s side looked to probe North End in search of a second goal, and it came with twenty minutes to go, just a few minutes after Matthew Tweedley had gone close with a rising shot from distance. Tweedley played a big part in the goal and after getting to the edge of the box, he played in Lockett who added to his assist with an emphatic finish past James Pradic from 12 yards out.
With the heavens opening and the game becoming more and more gritty, the Whites looked to see out the game and register a narrow victory, but it wasn’t to be with North End finding a leveller two minutes into added time. Finlay Cross-Adair saw an effort kept out by Luke Hutchinson, but Kitt Nelson pounced on the loose ball to score from close range.
