Bolton Wanderers are pleased to announce this Saturday’s Sky Bet League One fixture against Lincoln will be themed around the upcoming Rugby League World Cup 2021.
Wanderers are hosting one of England’s major group games during the tournament when the team take on France at the University of Bolton Stadium on Saturday 22nd October (KO 5pm).
Ahead of tournament kick of next month, the RLWC2021 team are bringing the men’s, women’s and wheelchair rugby world cup trophies to the home of the Wanderers on Saturday, with fans able to get up close for photo opportunities by the Fan Zone from midday.
In addition, the trophies will make their way pitchside at half time, along with New Zealand former rugby league star and RWLC Mental Fitness Ambassador, Robbie Hunter Paul. Young Westhoughton Lions’ players will also take to the pitch during the break to show off their rugby skills while Lofty will be joined for a lap of honour by the RLWC’s mascot, RugBee.
Fans will be able to find out more about the tournament in a dedicated programme piece and hospitality guests will also have the chance to check out the trophies when they make their way into the Platinum Suite, post-game.

The Rugby League World Cup is the pinnacle of international sport in Rugby League. For the first time ever, the men’s, women’s and wheelchair tournaments will take place simultaneously across 21 world class venues, giving fans the chance to watch the world’s best rugby league players on the biggest stage.
The University of Bolton Stadium has the honour of hosting an England men’s group game in which they’ll take on a rising French team, with kick-off off at 17:00 on 22nd October 2022. The hotly anticipated game, which will be England’s only group game in the North West, is on-course to sell out with Category E and D places no longer available and Category C tickets now over 65% sold.
In addition to this game, the French men’s team will be calling Bolton ‘home’ in just under two weeks’ time, as they will be based here for the duration of their time in the tournament.
