Wanderers have secured the signing of Victor Adeboyejo to further strengthen their strikeforce in a ‘big coup’ for the club.
Adeboyejo joins the Whites from Burton Albion for an undisclosed fee and has signed a three-and-a-half-year contract at the University of Bolton Stadium.
The 25-year-old had attracted widespread interest following a prolific season to date with the Brewers in League One.
And Wanderers’ boss Ian Evatt is delighted to have the powerful frontman on board to join fellow new recruit Cameron Jerome in the Whites’ goal-scoring ranks.
“Thank-you to the Board for allowing us to do this. This is quite a big coup for us and a big deal,” said Evatt.
“Vic is one of those who wants to continually learn and having Cameron as kind of a mentor will again help him learn what it takes to be a number-nine and score consistently going through the levels.”
Adeboyejo has scored 13 goals this season for a Burton side battling against relegation in his most prolific campaign to date.
The Nigeria-born frontman – who started his career at Leyton Orient after growing up in London – joined the Brewers last summer after spending four years with Barnsley.
He was predominantly used in a wide attacking role by the Tykes – as well as spending time on loan at Bristol Rovers and Cambridge United – before taking on a central striking role at Burton which he will also fill with Wanderers.
“Victor has some brilliant attributes,” added Evatt.
“He’s very technical and his technical ability is under-estimated.
“He’s played a lot of games in the Championship and is a really good finisher.
“This season has been his first consistent season as a number-nine and we see him very much as a number nine.
“We think there’s a high ceiling there which we can improve again and at his age and profile he can have plenty of growth and progress with us.
“He’s going to get a lot more chances with us than with Burton and we think he’s going to be a really good fit for us.”
Adeboyejo’s arrival makes him Wanderers’ fifth new signing of the January transfer window with the deal completed in time for the striker – who takes squad number 29 – to be included in the Whites’ squad for Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off at Charlton Athletic.
