Eoin Toal wants Wanderers to carry their momentum into their year opener at Barnsley as the Whites aim to reclaim their top-six spot.
Sunday’s results saw the Whites slip a place outside the play-off zone.
But Ian Evatt’s men know a second win in four games at Barnsley this afternoon (Monday) would lift them back above Wycombe and Derby and level on points with the fourth-placed Tykes.
Barnsley are unbeaten in their last seven league games, while Wanderers have lost just once over the same period.
And after hitting back to secure a 1-1 draw at Lincoln City on Friday night, goalscorer Toal is looking to kick on from the comeback and try and help Wanderers turn one point into three.
“It wasn’t a great first half but hopefully we can build on that second half and take it into Monday,” said the Wanderers’ defender, whose first goal for the club extended the Whites’ unbeaten run to three games either side of Christmas.
“We haven’t lost for a couple of games now and hopefully we can take this on.
“It’s a big game at Barnsley now on Monday.
“Hopefully I can kick on and we can kick on as a group as well and get some more points on the board.”
Toal has seized his opportunity of a run of first-team games in impressive fashion following injuries to Ricardo Almeida Santos and Gethin Jones.
And the former Derry City central defender wants to add to his games and goals’ tally in 2023 after nodding home the leveller at Lincoln from an Aaron Morley corner to cap another eye-catching performance at both ends of the pitch.
“It was an amazing feeling. It was great to get my first goal of the club and hopefully there are more to come,” Toal added.
“I’ve said for a couple of years now it’s something I need to add to my game.
“I want to keep scoring goals and going to places like Lincoln a set-piece will really, really help you.
“(Attacking) is part and parcel of the position. At the start I was watching a lot of Geth and trying to replicate the way he does it.
“I said to him the other week that he’s really good at attacking and that’s something I really wanted to add to my game.”
