Wanderers’ B Team added a highly creditable point to their Central League Cup tally as they drew with an experienced Rochdale side at the Crown Oils Arena.
Dale named a starting line-up heavy on first-team appearances and hit back from two goals down thanks to a Scott Quigley double in the second half.
But the young Whites deserved their reward as they secured their first draw in Group A to prevent Dale from going joint top of the table.
Wanderers – who had won one and lost two of their first three games in the group – went ahead with another goal from Carty.
The B Team’s leading scorer followed up his goal from a 4-1 loss against Blackpool’s Reserves last time out with another fine finish as he picked out the bottom corner from the edge of the box.
Carty then turned provider a minute after the break when he set up midfielder Matthew Tweedley to slot home and make it 2-0.
The two-goal lead last just over 10 minutes before Quigley pulled one back from close range.
And the former Barrow and Stockport striker – a promotion winner at Barrow under Wanderers’ boss Ian Evatt – then made it 2-2 when he notched his second with just over 20 minutes to go.
Quigley could have completed his hat-trick but was denied by Mackenzie Chapman’s fine save, while Wanderers could have win it themselves as Nelson Khumbeni and Finlay Lockett both went close for Matt Craddock’s men.
