Bolton Wanderers in the Community welcomed over 55 high school girls to Bolton Wanderers for a special event to mark International Women’s Day 2023.
All the attendees were participants of Premier League Inspires, an education programme developed by the Premier League and professional football clubs for marginalised young people aged between 11-25.
To kick off the day, participants from clubs including Bolton Wanderers, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Everton and Burnley were introduced to a guest panel of women who work the football industry, including representatives from Bolton Wanderers, the Premier League, Bolton Wanderers Women and Her Game Too.
The panel spoke of their experiences in football, answered questions and offered advice to the young girls attending the event.
Following this, the girls took a behind the scenes tour of the University of Bolton Stadium before taking part in a football festival.
Speaking on the event, Jordan Morris, PL Inspires Project Officer said “The International Women’s Day event was a great success from all involved. The aim of the day was to engage with girls from different backgrounds, clubs and parts of the north-west, and in doing so raise their aspirations around how they can be a positive driving force within football.
“I’d like to thank all the speakers on our panel, they truly helped to inspire and motivate the girls to achieve their dreams. Each participant ended the event with big smiles on their faces as well as receiving a Bolton Wanderers in the Community International Women’s Day medal.”
International Women’s Day is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.
Her Game Too is a female fan-led movement that aims to foster an ethos of respect and inclusivity for women across the game. Bolton Wanderers have been proud partners of Her Game Too for 12 months.
