B Team Preview | Accrington Stanley v Wanderers

B Team Accrington preview

The B Team starts its Central League Cup campaign with a short trip to take on Accrington Stanley’s second string tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.

Wanderers are in Group C of the competition, along with Stanley’s Professional Development Phase side, Huddersfield, Rotherham and Salford City.

Andy Taylor’s side made a winning stary to their Central League programme when a handful of first-team players helped the Whites to a 5-0 win over Notts County.

Wanderers won’t have any senior men on duty at Stanley but are likely to include the youngsters who figured on the bench for the first team in their Bristol Street Motors Trophy win at Barrow last Tuesday night.

They include deadline-day signing Mark Isong (above), who could feature for the first time since his arrival from League of Ireland leaders Shelbourne.

B Team boss Taylor – who oversaw a 3-1 training-ground win at Blackburn Rovers’ Academy last week – said: “It will be good to get a competitive game again and the lads are looking forward to it.

“With our league game against Chesterfield off last week it was great to fit in a fixture against Blackburn. It’s always a decent test in a high-quality environment and that will benefit some of those who played.

“We’re missing a couple of players on their way back from injury but we’ll also have a few more available and it will be a good test as we look to get off to a winning start in the group.”

Isong’s arrival coincides with a loan move to Ashton United for forward Trevon Bryan, who gets the chance to add to his senior experience with the Northern Premier League top-flight side.

B Team colleague Charlie Hayes-Green is also getting a further taste of senior football after recovering from injury and extending his loan stay with NPL North-West outfit Clitheroe.

Tuesday’s Central League Cup tie takes place at the Accrington Sports Hub (KO 2pm) and is open to spectators.
