The Bolton Wanderers Former Players' Association (FPA) have been busy this week and are set to help spread the festive cheer across our local area, putting together over 100 hampers for families in need this Christmas time.
A now annual tradition and the third year in which they have ran this appeal, the FPA were joined by friends and family of our former players – as well as Bolton Wanderers in the Community staff – in building the hampers this week at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.
The appeal looks to help families across our town to ensure they have food on their table and presents to open on the big day next week - with hampers including food with a roast dinner ready for Christmas dinner, household essentials, hygiene products as well as gifts for over 200 children across Bolton.
Over this coming weekend and with the hampers now all set for Christmas, the FPA and the club’s former players will be out and personally hand-delivering hampers to those in need across the town.
Wanderers legend and FPA President John McGinlay said: “The response from businesses and individuals this year has been fantastic and heartwarming.
“This is the third year of us doing it and it has grown each year. Our aim was to hit 100+ hampers this year, and I am delighted that we have been able to do that.
“As former players, who received unbelievable backing from the club’s supporters throughout our time here, we felt it only right that we repay that faith and give back to this fantastic town during this period.
“Hopefully this is now an annual tradition in our Football Club’s Christmas calendar and continues to grow in the years to come."
Bolton Wanderers and the Former Players' Association would like to give huge thanks to the following for making considerable donations to the appeal:
Destinology, Bootle Containers, Ian Holden, North West Design, Dougie Mercer, The Ivers Family, A Walker, Stop Press Printing, Park Cakes, Warburtons and Global Trading UK.
