Charity Match | Football v Cancer 2024

FvC

A host of ex-footballers and celebrities will assemble at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Saturday 18th May for the Football v Cancer celebrity football match (KO 1.30pm).

Originally the ‘Mick Belson Cup’, the event was formed to raise money in honour of Mick Belson, a grassroots football coach who passed away on 14th February 2010, after being diagnosed with a brain tumour.

In the years since, the Football v Cancer event has raised in excess of £75,000 for various cancer charities and the match in May at the home of Wanderers will fundraise for Anna’s Hope, In Sue’s Name and the club’s official charity, Bolton Wanderers in the Community – who will place 100% of their portion of the monies raised into local projects.

Tickets are £10 for adults and £5 for under 18s and over 65s.

The line up of familiar footballing faces making an appearance at the Toughsheet will include Des Walker, Neil Ruddock, Colin Hendry, Rickie Lambert, Frank Sinclair, Jason Lee, Marcus Gayle, David Norris, Gaby Zakuani, Paul Canoville and Wanderers’ own legendary John McGinlay.

In addition, stars from TV and sport also in attendance will be tv and film actor Thomas Turgoose, Former England cricketer Monty Panesar, tv personality Thomas Skinner, Sky Sports presenter Sam Obaseki, reality tv’s Star Jay Watkin and former boxer Ben “Duracell” Jones.

The 90-minute game will kick off at 1.30pm, with turnstiles open from 12.30pm.

Following the match, the celebrities will attend a gala dinner and charity auction in the Lion of Vienna Suite. Tickets to the evening event are £100 per person and this includes an arrival drink, three course meal and live entertainment - plus the opportunity to mingle with the star players.

Shaun Harley, Event Committee Chair said: “The match is always lots of fun and we have set ourselves a target of surpassing £100,000 in total funds raised for such worthy charities”.

Neil Hart, Chief Executive Officer at Bolton Wanderers said: “We are pleased to be hosting the annual Football v Cancer 2024 fundraising match and Gala Dinner here at the home of Bolton Wanderers.

“Opening the doors of the Toughsheet Community Stadium to events such as this is important to us and we are delighted that our own charity, Bolton Wanderers in the Community, are one of the organisations that will benefit.

“We hope everyone involved enjoys a fantastic day.”
