Aaron Collins has been named the Vertu Trophy Player of the Round.
The Wanderers’ striker topped a supporters’ poll from a shortlist of four players to take the prize, which covered the group stage of the competition.
Collins followed up a superb strike at Barrow and assist against Aston Villa’s U21s with both goals – including a last-minute winner – against Fleetwood Town to help Wanderers top their group and set up tonight’s last-32 tie at home to Huddersfield Town.
“I’m delighted to have won this award and would like to thank all the supporters who voted for me, said Collins, who beat Wycombe’s Beryly Lubala, Miles Leaburn of Charlton Athletic and Rotherham’s Jordan Hugill to win the award.
“The group stage of the competition was excellent for me and the team. The qualifying games gave us a bit of momentum at times just when we needed it and helped me get my goal count up and running.
“It’s nice to score and have a hand in goals that matter and thankfully those that went in helped us get the points and wins we needed to top the group and earn a home draw in the last-32 with the chance to compete and try and progress further in a competition that has meant a lot to the club in the past.”
Collins, who scored his first goal of the season in September’s 3-2 win at Barrow and now has seven in all competitions, was also named as Wanderers’ KIA Player of the Month for November.
