Josh Sheehan crowned a magnificent campaign by being named both Wanderers’ Player and Players’ Player of the Season.
The 29-year-old picked up the two major trophies at the Whites’ End of Season Awards, sponsored by Franking Sense, after being selected as the season’s top performer by both the supporters and his team-mates.
Sheehan’s midfield colleague Paris Maghoma was named Young Player of the Season for a superb loan stay with Wanderers, while Aaron Collins’ stunner against Reading was chosen by the fans as Goal of the Season and Dion Charles again collected the trophy for top scorer.
Sheehan was an overwhelming winner of both awards after featuring in 42 of Wanderers’ 45 League One games to date and weighing in with two goals and a dozen assists for Ian Evatt’s side to coordinate a guaranteed place in the play-offs and potential promotion success.
“At the start of the season you concentrate on yourself, your own performances and set yourself goals and to achieve this at the end of the season is very special to me,” said Sheehan, who was also named in the EFL League One team of the season earlier this month.
“To get the award from the players, who you see you daily, is a special feeling and thanks also to the fans who voted for me for the club award.
“I think everyone who joins this club knows how special it is and how much history it has, and to be on the list with some of the players who have won it before is a great feeling.
“This is my first full season when I’ve been fully fit throughout and I’m glad I’ve been able to show what I can do week-in, week-out.
“The way the gaffer sees football is how I see it and the team plays the way I’ve grown up playing, so it’s brought the best out of me and made it a special season which hopefully still has more to come.”
The players received their trophies at a glittering awards night in the Boxoso Premier Suite at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, superbly compered by Wanderers’ fan and BBC Radio 2 presenter Vernon Kay, and attended by the full first-team squad and over 800 supporters and guests.
