Ian Evatt praised the players and fans who combined to halt the league leaders and earn Wanderers a morale-boosting point, writes Pete Oliver.
The Whites bounced back from their home defeat to local rivals Wigan to become the first side to stop Wycombe scoring in League One this season with a 0-0 draw at Adams Park.
A superb turn-out of 770 travelling fans showed their appreciation for Wanderers’ efforts and were almost able to celebrate all three points in a big finish as Evatt’s men went close from a couple of injury-time chances.
“I'm so proud of the players who responded after Saturday. We were all absolutely distraught after Saturday for so many reasons and yet I'm proud of what they've done tonight and proud of the fans as well. They were absolutely amazing.
“When the players hear that, they just respond and react and it's the first time in a while after the game we shared a nice moment all together as a group. I thought the fans were absolutely brilliant. The support was incredible and the players walking off the pitch with heads high, chests out again is something we've spoken about in the week and we managed to do that.
“This team is capable of good results and good performances. That was a different type of performance but we can do that. We can battle and we can scrap and that's where the frustration lies, just the inconsistency.
“We have highs and we have incredible lows and we have to stop those. We have to be better and in adversity – and we have been facing adversity – is an opportunity to grow and get better and come back stronger and that's where our focus is.”
Wanderers are now just outside the top-six on goal difference after an injury-hit side secured a first clean sheet in 10 games with some outstanding performances from players coming back into the line-up.
Evatt’s men now face back-to-back home games with Evatt hoping to making it a happy Christmas against Barnsley on Boxing Day.
The Wanderers’ boss added: “I'm just so proud of the players and the effort and commitment and desire they showed today.
“It shows we want to fight, we're willing to fight and we’ve still got fight in us and hopefully the fans who travelled down have seen that. We've got two home games now and if we can create that atmosphere at home with 20,000 there it’s going to make it hard for the opposition. We have to play our part.
“But the togetherness we've shown out there tonight, including the fans, has been what Bolton Wanderers, for me, has been all about and we have to make sure that continues.”
