Ian Evatt wants Wanderers to regain their mean streak to help make life easier in their play-off quest, writes Pete Oliver.
The Whites twice had to come from behind to earn a point from a 2-2 with Cambridge United, with the second equaliser coming in the final minute.
And Evatt admitted poor defending is proving costly after U’s striker Elias Kachunga was permitted to make one and score one before the break against his former club.
“We have to look at getting back to keeping clean sheets and stop conceding such sloppy goals,” said the Whites’ boss.
“At the moment we're just far too easy to score against. Against teams that just want to come and spoil, delay, disrupt, to concede so early you give yourselves a mountain to climb.
“And against any team that comes with 11 behind the ball you can't concede the first goal. Then it's really hard to break them down. Having said that, we scored a really good goal to get ourselves back in the game and then 51 seconds later we give ourselves all that work to do in the second half.
“It was complete domination in the second half but we weren't clinical enough with our chances when they came. But they kept going. We should have won the game but we managed to get something out of it which is a positive.
“We didn't lose the game and hopefully come the end of the season that's an important point.”
The result did allow Wanderers to move a point nearer the play-offs, knowing that a win at home Charlton Athletic on Tuesday night would leave them outside the top six only on goal difference.
“We just have to regroup and go again,” added Evatt, who is trying to make a breakthrough in the transfer market to bolster his squad.
“Hopefully we can get some bodies in to help us. Hopefully, we will see what we can do. It was important not to lose that game and we get ready again for Tuesday.”
