Friendly Preview | Wanderers v Port Vale

Match Preview Vale

Wanderers head into their final pre-season friendly of the campaign with a trip to Burslem.

It will be a last chance in public for Whites' boss Ian Evatt to fine-tune the fitness and form of his squad before next weekend's League One curtain-raiser against Leyton Orient.

Port Vale - who suffered relegation to League Two last season after a two-year stay in League One - will start their bid to bounce back with an opening game at Salford City on Saturday 10th August.

Manager quotes

Wanderers' boss Ian Evatt: "The injuries are coming back and hopefully we'll have some new recruits come the start of this season, so it's another step forward with more learnings and we'll be ready for Port Vale on Saturday."

Team news

There were no fresh injury concerns for Wanderers after Tuesday night's game against Stoke City when Dion Charles returned to action from the bench and there were first pre-season starts for Jack Iredale, Scott Arfield and Luke Southwood.

Charles is likely to add to his minutes at Vale, where strike partner Aaron Collins could return.

Will Forrester will face a fitness check to see if he can face his former club, while defensive colleague Chris Forino is nearing a return after picking up an injury earlier in pre-season.

The Valiants have made a host of signings this summer, including midfielder George Byers from Sheffield Wednesday and former Portsmouth forward Ronan Curtis.

Saturday's hosts have also made reinforcements at the back, with Connor Hall returning to the club from Colchester United and ex-Wednesday  centre-half Ben Heneghan also linking up with former Owls' boss Darren Moore.

That followed a 1-1 draw at home to Serie A opponents Fiorentina in a positive pre-season programme which also brought wins West Bromwich Albion and Chorley either side of a loss at Middlesbrough.

Darren Moore's side has warmed up for a first full season in charge of the Valiants with wins over local sides Kidsgrove Athletic, Newcastle Town and a Luton Town XI and losses to Bath City and Burton Albion.
