FRIENDLY REPORT | Port Vale 0-3 Wanderers

Cele

Pre-season preparations concluded at Vale Park with a dominant performance over Port Vale this afternoon.

Wanderers fans were still finding their seats when Aaron Collins scored the opener inside two minutes.

Evatt's men doubled their lead after a defensive horror show from Vale which benefitted Victor Adeboyejo who was in the right place at the right time to get our second.

And the returning Dion Charles made sure Wanderers would finish their pre-season with a win as he raced through the Vale defence and calmly placed the ball past Connor Ripley.

Momentum and confidence were all built on heading into the new season with a comprehensive victory as we now look ahead to a visit to Leyton Orient next week.

A few changes to the starting lineup including the return of Nathan Baxter after being given the night off against Stoke City on Tuesday along with Victor Adeboyejo replacing Dan Nlundulu up front.

Notably a return for Aaron Collins who missed Tuesday's game after suffering a knock against Fiorentina but he wasted no time in making his presence known when he tapped home Josh Dacres-Cogley's cross at the back post to give Wanderers an early lead.

The Valiants looked to get back on level terms on 18 minutes when an effective press paid off and gave summer signing Ruari Paton a sight of goal but he blasted his effort wide.

Five minutes later it looked like Scott Arfield had doubled our lead following a goal line scramble but his strike was parried off the line and out for a corner according to officials after Arfield was adamant it had crossed the line.

However it didn't take long until we had our deserved second. A calamity at the back for the hosts when a weak back pass was played towards Connor Ripley, but Adeboyejo did well to intercept and get a shot off.

The ball was eventually cleared off the line by the Vale defence but the ball fell back to Adeboyejo who made no mistake and poked the ball over the line as Wanderers took a favourable lead into the break.

Vale's captain Ben Garrity looked to halve the deficit just three minutes into the half but his effort from the edge of the area went wide.

It took 59 minutes for Baxter to be tested when two summer signings linked up with Ryan Croasdale putting through Ruari Paton on goal but from a tight angle he saw his strike saved by Baxter and parried away for a corner.

15 minutes from the end Dion Charles made sure of a Wanderers victory as he simply had too much pace for the Vale defence as he stroked the ball home to get his first goal since returning from injury.

The Valiants went in search of a consolation four minutes later after another new recruit in Lorent Tolaj went close with an outside of the boot flick following a driven ball in from the left but Baxter did well to read it and keep the ball away from goal.

Tolaj tried again minutes from time but Baxter wasn't going to give his clean sheet up as he got everything behind the strike from inside the area to make sure of a dominant victory.
