Hard Work Pays Off For Charles

Dion Charles contract August 2023

Dion Charles aims to keep firing Wanderers upwards after extending his stay at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

Charles has been rewarded with a new three-year contract after a prolific start to his Wanderers' career.

The Northern Ireland international became the club’s first player in over two decades to score 20 goals in a season in 2022/23 and has now committed himself to the Whites for an additional 12 months.

“It shows all the hard work and dedication I’ve put in since I’ve been here. I’m seeing the benefits of it and it’s a brilliant club to be at,” said Charles.

“I want to score the goals to get this club back where it belongs."

“I’ve said in all the interviews I’ve done I was brought here to score goals. It’s something I thrive on, being a goalscorer, and hopefully I will score many, many more.

“I want to score the goals to get this club back where it belongs. It’s had some bad times recently but we’re on the other end of that now and everything is improving on and off the pitch and I’m delighted to be part of it.”

Charles’ goals fired Wanderers into the League One play-offs last season and will be key again this term as Ian Evatt’s men bid to repeat their challenge.

The 27-year-old also netted in Wanderers’ Wembley win in the Papa Johns Trophy in April and after adding three more to his career tally already season, his stock continues to rise following his arrival from Accrington Stanley in January, 2022.

“I take it as a compliment when you hear of getting linked with other teams. It shows you’re doing something well,” added Charles, who has scored 32 times in just 81 appearances for the Whites.

“But I’m here, I’m a Bolton player and I enjoy coming into work every single day. I enjoy being around the management and the players and there’s a real good feel-factor around the place.

“I get better each season. I came into the game quite late, so I’ve got quite a few more years ahead of me, so hopefully there are a lot more goals to come.”
