Jack Iredale is on his way back to Scotland after ending his stay with Wanderers to join Premiership side Hibernian.

The left-sided defender leaves after two seasons with the Whites to sign a permanent two-year deal at Easter Road for undisclosed terms.

Iredale made 50 League One appearances and 68 in total for Wanderers after signing for the club in May, 2022 following his departure from Cambridge United and twice helped Ian Evatt's men reach the play-offs.

The Wanderers' manager said: “With the size of the squad it was going to be difficult for Jack to get regular game time.

“But he's a player who's had a really positive impact on what we've tried to do for the past couple of years.

“He’s a wonderful lad who’s been a pleasure to be around and a pleasure to coach and we wish him all the best moving forward.”

Iredale started Wanderers’ opening game of the season but the return to fitness of George Johnston and summer signing Chris Forino has increased Wanderers’ defensive options.

And his move to the Scottish top-flight with Hibernian allows Iredale to take on a fresh challenge in the country of his birth.

The 28-year-old was born in Greenock and after growing up in New Zealand and Australia returned to his home town to start his UK career with Greenock Morton.

He moved to England to spend a season with Carlisle United in 2019/20 before helping Cambridge to promotion from League Two the following year.

After three seasons in League One, Iredale now returns to Scotland having been a popular figure at the Toughsheet Community Stadium, where he was named the club's PFA Community Champion last season.

Iredale's move to Hibs followed Dan Nlundulu's loan switch to Cambridge earlier on deadline day.

Clubs can still add their squads beyond Friday's deadline if they opt to sign a free agent.
