Match Preview | Barnsley v Wanderers

Barnsley Match Preview

Wanderers are on their travels this weekend as they look to put Tuesday's result behind them with a positive result this Saturday.

The Whites will have fond memories of their last trip to Barnsley with a 3-1 victory in the first leg of last season's play-off campaign.

Unlike Wanderers, Barnsley didn't play midweek and are coming off a very difficult result on Saturday where they conceded six to now Championship bound Birmingham City.

Davis Keillor-Dunn and Stephen Humphrys were on target for Conor Hourihane's side, who is in charge of the Tykes until the end of the season after the departure of Darrell Clarke, but ultimately were well beaten.

Press Conference

Steven Schumacher: "You can't allow yourself to become complacent. If we were in the top six, we would be going for it. Now we have to chase, so we understand that. We have to pick up points and we don't want to drop anymore, if possible.

"What the overall points’ tally is going to be no-one knows, and I'd be very surprised if it's straightforward. It never is, there's always twists and turns, so we just have to continue moving on as best as we can.

"Even on Tuesday night, I think the fans could see that it wasn't a bad performance. It was a performance full of effort, but just lacked a little bit of final product that we wanted.

"But the effort is going to be there, I promise the fans that from the next five games. We’re not going to give up. The way that they support us up and down the country, and here at home, requires us to give 100% effort, so that's what the players will do.

"They need to stick a performance in that, again, the fans are proud of. Whether we win or lose or draw it has to be effort there and to say that's what I can guarantee."

Barnsley Interim Head Coach Conor Hourihane: "Bolton are a really good footballing side. I was at their game on Tuesday and thought they were excellent. The strength of their squad is clear - the players they brought off the bench would walk into most teams in the league. We’ll have to be really good out of possession.

"We’ll go to attack and try to win the game, of course. Hopefully we see some of the work we’ve been doing start to come through. That’s what we’re aiming for."

Team News

Wanderers will be without defender Will Forrester for the remainder of the season with a hamstring injury.

Everyone involved in the Rotherham game remains fit as they get ready for Saturday's test.

For Barnsley, defender Maël de Gevigney was sent off in Saturday's defeat so will be suspended for this weekend's game.

But the hosts see defenders Josh Earl and Barry Cotter return from injury and could be in contention for selection on Saturday.

Form Guide

Wanderers now sit two points outside the play-offs following Tuesday, with Reading the team who occupy the final spot.

The Whites were victorious on their last away trip thanks to a late, late goal from Chris Forino to beat Wigan Athletic.
