Match Preview | Bolton Wanderers v Salford City

Salford preview

Wanderers kick off their EFL Trophy campaign on Tuesday night as Salford City visit the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

With last season’s Wembley win lasting long in the memory, Ian Evatt’s men begin their defence of the trophy against the Neil Wood’s Ammies in Group E.

Manager quotes

Ian Evatt:

“We will have the same approach as we had last year. We want to be competitive in every game we play, and this is no different.

This competition is very much like the league campaign. It’s drawn out virtually over the whole season. It starts slowly and it builds up gradually as we go along.

“This is a difficult group with Salford, Stockport and Manchester United involved in that. Salford have had some good results in cup competitions. They beat Leeds and Preston (in the Carabao Cup) so they will come here and give us a good go.

“We need to just concentrate on our own performance and on the back of performances hopefully results will follow.”

Team News

Joel Coleman remains sidelined with an injury picked up against Middlesbrough whilst Jack Iredale is expected to return after being rested on Saturday to manage his workload following last season’s knee surgery.

Kyle Dempsey is a doubt with a back problem which he has played through in recent games.

Form guide

Salford have had an indifferent start to the campaign and find themselves in 17th place in Sky Bet League Two.

So far, the Ammies have managed two wins, one draw and three defeats however they did experience Carabao Cup delight after knocking out Leeds United on penalties.

Neil Wood’s men will be looking to bounce back from a 1-0 defeat away to Morecambe on Saturday afternoon.

Wanderers bagged an important three points after victory against Derby County on Saturday which sends Ian Evatt’s men into the international break in good stead where the league action is concerned.
