Match Preview | Peterborough United v Wanderers

Preview

Wanderers travel to the Weston Homes Stadium on Saturday afternoon (12;30pm KO) to take on Peterborough United in the final game of the regular Sky Bet League One season.

Ian Evatt’s men can still achieve a second place finish but will require a favour from elsewhere to do so. The Whites will need to take all three points from the Posh and hope that Carlisle United can beat Derby County at Pride Park. There will also need to be a four goal swing within those results.

Manager quotes

Ian Evatt: “We're not expectant. It's a very difficult situation for us. Derby are heavy favourites but we have seen ourselves that Carlisle have been here and also to Peterborough and got very good results, so they are more than capable.

“But for us, we have to focus on our own performance and make sure that if there are any slip-ups we are in a position to take advantage.

“Our focus is going there and playing well and making sure we play well, because we're going to have to against a really good team. Then, if a miracle happens then fantastic and, hopefully, we can be in a position to take advantage of it.”

Peterborough United Manager Darren Ferguson: “I am really looking forward to the game. I can’t see it finishing 0-0. Both sides like to play the game in the right way.

“We should have taken all three points at their place earlier in the season, that seems such a long time ago! Bolton have a lot of good players, particularly at the top end of the pitch and they will be a threat. It will be a tough game.”

Team News

Captain Ricardo Almeida Santos has trained well all week after missing last weekend’s victory with a slight knock but will be in contention to return for the final day.

Dion Charles got another 80 minutes under his belt and his match fitness and sharpness returns just in time for a potential play-off campaign.

Dan Nlundulu also made an appearance off the bench and similarly to Dion, is working on regaining his match fitness.

Victor Adeboyejo won’t be ready for this weekend but, if needed, may be available to be called upon in the coming weeks.

Peterborough will be without Kwame Poku and Jeando Fuchs but Michael Olakigbe has returned from the treatment room and will be available for selection.

Form Guide

The Posh have been in quite blistering form in the final third of the season, winning 11 out of their last 15 games in all competitions, which firmly cements themselves in the play-off picture.

Last time out, a much changed Peterborough team fell to a 2-0 defeat away to Cheltenham Town as Darren Ferguson rotated his team with one eye on the upcoming play-offs.

Wanderers kept the automatic promotion places still mathematically possible after goals from Aaron Collins and Cameron Jerome dispatched Port Vale last weekend.

The Whites are unbeaten in six and will be looking to carry that form through to the play-offs, if that is the path needed to gain promotion.
