Match Preview | Wanderers v Fleetwood Town

preview

Wanderers are all set for their final Bristol Street Motors Trophy group game as they take on Fleetwood Town at the Toughsheet Community Stadium on Tuesday night.

Ian Evatt's side already have a win and a draw under their belt in the competition with a 3-2 away victory at Barrow and a home draw against Aston Villa U21s.

To secure a place in the knock-out stages, Wanderers can either win for the maximum of three points or draw and win on penalties for two points. If the Whites were to draw and lose on penalties, it would then come down to the result of Barrow v Aston Villa U21s to determine Wanderers' fate.

The table is currently Aston Villa U21s top of the group with five points, Wanderers in second with four points, Fleetwood in third with three points and Barrow have already been eliminated with zero points at the bottom of the group.

Manager Quotes

Ian Evatt: "The group of players is very upset from Saturday and it's my job now to pick them back up again and understand all is not lost.

"We are under no illusion that we have to go on a good run and start winning games consistently. It's my job to re-focus the players, to concentrate on everything we can to get better, to give them everything we can to get better.

"It's a game that isn't ideal in terms of timing. We've had so many injuries, a lot of illness from last week and players away on international duty, so the likelihood is the team is going to be heavily changed and rotated because we can't keep going to the well with the same ones.

“We'll get ready for the Blackpool game but, firstly, whatever team I put out we always expect to be competitive. We're under no illusions that Fleetwood will come here and try and get through and we'll be trying to do the same thing."

Team News

Nathan Baxter returned from injury on Saturday to start for Wanderers against Stockport County after an extended period on the sidelines.

Gethin Jones and Jordi-Osei Tutu also got back on the pitch with appearances from the bench and could use this fixture to get more minutes in the bank on their road to match fitness.

As stated above, Ian Evatt could heavily change his side with four players away on international duty alongside an injury list to deal with.

Form Guide

Wanderers will be looking to rapidly respond from Saturday's 5-0 defeat away to Stockport County by putting in a performance against Charlie Adam's side on Tuesday night.

Ian Evatt's side will have to wait a fortnight to make amends in the league with an international break taking place this upcoming weekend.

The Whites had won six of their previous eight in the league before Saturday's showing and they will be doing their best to draw a line under that performance as soon as possible.

The visitors were victorious in their last outing with a 1-0 home win over Bradford City in Sky Bet League Two. That was the Cod Army's first win in six games in all competitions who sit in exactly mid-table in their division, in 12th place.

In the Bristol Street Motors Trophy, they fell to defeat to Aston Villa U21s before dispatching Barrow 3-0 on their home turf.
