Match Preview | Wycombe v Bolton Wanderers

Match Preview Wycombe

For Wanderers' final game before Christmas, the Whites travel south to take on the League One leaders, Wycombe Wanderers.

Ian Evatt's side enjoyed their last visit to Adams Park with a six goal thriller, when Wanderers ran out 4-2 winners in October 2023 - with the Whites scoring two late goals to secure the points.

If Wanderers can claim all three points on the weekend they will find themselves in the top six by the end of the night ahead of Saturday's games.

Whereas for Saturday's hosts, Wycombe will know a win will keep them at the top of the tree for Christmas.

Manager Quotes

Ian Evatt: “We've had those conversations and the minute I feel like that's changed and the players have lost belief in me, or vice versa, or the board have lost belief in me, then it's a completely different conversation.

“We're not at that stage. We’re together. We understand that in football there are always tough times around the corner, always. We’ve been fortunate so far not to have had many tough times.

“We know that if we win our two games (in hand on some) we'll be right in the top-six and in the heat of it. But there's a long, long way to go, 28 games of football and a lot of points and it's just the next game mentality and mindset.

“That’s Wycombe; a really tough game and really difficult in the circumstances with the personnel available. But we always go there and give it our best shot. We don't go anywhere to try and survive, we go to try and thrive and we'll be going there to try and win tomorrow.”

Team News

Ian Evatt confirmed that wing-back Jordi Osei-Tutu will likely miss the trip to Adams Park with a minor injury picked up on impact against Wigan last time out. He should, however, be back in contention for the Boxing Day visit of Barnsley to the Toughsheet.

The Wanderers' boss will also be without defenders Ricardo Almeida Santos and George Johnston through suspension - having both picked up their fifth yellow cards against Wigan last weekend.

For the hosts, on-loan Bolton midfielder Aaron Morley will of course be unable to play on Friday evening, having joined the Chairboys on a temporary basis in the summer.

Matt Bloomfield also confirmed that fellow Wycombe midfielder Josh Scowen remains unavailable for selection, having picked up an injury last month in the Vertu Trophy.

Form Guide

Wanderers were on a five game unbeaten run in all competitions before last weekend's defeat, scoring 11 goals in those matches.

But the Whites know a win against the league leaders will be a statement of intent as Ian Evatt's men hunt down the top six and to throw themselves right into the promotion picture.

It has been a season to remember so far for the Chairboys, who are currently on an incredible 17-game unbeaten streak in the league.

With just two defeats all season, and only three losses on their home turf throughout the whole of 2024, Wanderers know of the challenge they face on the road on Friday evening.
